Service d’Informatique (May 1979 thru May 1981)

Founded by David to provide Information Processing Services to organizations and businesses in the Eastern Townships. Service d’Informatique operated from May 1979 thru May 1981 when David joined the CNR as an IDMS Database Analyst. Mr. Lyon continued to service the Sherbrooke Hospital contract until February 1982.

Mr. Lyon was involved in with the following assignments:

Aeroxon
Performed a feasibility study on the use of Micro-Computers to capture Product Ordering and Shipping Information.

Accommodation PML
Maintained financial records including: Sales Journal, Sales Tax reporting and remittances, Cheque Register, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Payroll remittances, T4s, Bank Reconciliations, inventory, wastage, and Financial Statements.

Bishop’s University/Champlain Regional College
Conducted seminars and utorials on a number of computer science topics.

Canadian Ingersoll Rand
Participated in a design review of a proposed system to capture and maintain accounts payable information.

Focus Camera Shop
Designed, developed, operated and maintained a Customer Database to capture customer and photography equipment information in order produce filtered sets of mailing labels for the distribution of promotional material.

Harmer’s Locksmith Shop
Maintained financial records including: Sales Journal, Sales Tax reporting and remittances, Cheque Register, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Payroll remittances, T4s, Bank Reconciliations, and Financial Statements.

Paton Textile
Developed a serial interface, using Z80 Assembler, to connect a DEC Serial Printer to a TRS80 Micro-Computer.

Service d’Informatique
Designed and developed an Accounting and Bookkeeping application in TRS80 Basic which was used to provide Financial Record Keeping Services to small businesses.

Sherbrooke Hospital – Personnel Department
Developed a software application in Basic 4.0 to capture and maintain information on staffing assignments in order to produced a monthly staffing report (AS425) required by the Ministry of Social Services Quebec.

When the Ministry of Social Services Quebec discontinued the monthly AS425 staffing report, Mr. Lyon revised the AS425 software application to produce the new AS443 Annex Report.

Developed a Personnel Database System for the management of personnel and staffing information on 500 employees. As part of this project developed a Database Management System around a Hardware Chip used to provide Keyed and Random Access directly to disk sectors of a Commodore Hard Disk Unit.

Sherbrooke Laundry
Performed a feasibility study on the use of Micro-Computers to capture and schedule Dry Cleaning and Laundry Pick-ups and Deliveries; tracking the progress of Dry Cleaning and Laundry orders; production and tracking of invoices; and maintenance of financial records.

Sherbrooke Record
Designed, developed, operated and maintained a Subscription Management System to capture out-of-town subscriber information and periodically produce mailing labels.

VisonTroniques
Developed a Point of Sale Inventory Control System for over 6000 products and used the information to produce weekly sales reports, update inventory records and recommended inventory ordering levels for stock replenishment.
